Orange
The orange peel is composed of two layers:
- an orange-coloured outer layer called the epicarp or zest, which contains numerous essence glands
- a second distinct whitish, spongy layer, the mesocarp
O for Orange
Orange grows on the eastern plains of Corsica, under the influence of the sea, mild autumn weather and no frost. These conditions enable a late harvest, guaranteeing a high sugar content, good taste and optimal preservation.
We grow several varieties to cover the entire harvest period.
Oranges are consumed fresh, in cooking, in the preparation of orange juice, jams, pastries, candied orange peel, certain alcohols, etc.
L’orange se distingue par :
- son goût fruité et acidulé
- juicy pulp
- its rough skin and fragrant zest
Organic, Beautiful and Good
Our oranges are grown organically with the greatest care, without any chemical treatments.
They ripen on the tree.
Harvesting is entirely manual. It takes place from December to April.
Rich in vitamins, particularly vitamin C, to combat winter viruses.
To make the most of its benefits, peel it and eat it straight away.
It also has a high calcium content, essential for bone mineralization.
Flowering takes place in May and June. Then, from July to December, we take the time to ripen. Harvesting takes place from January to March. Pruning begins immediately afterwards, in April.

A year in the life of Orange
Flowering
Close your eyes, concentrate and imagine the sweet fragrance I exude... It's a dream come true, isn't it?
Vegetative development
Here I am when the orchard was very young. We are immediately irrigated to help us grow. At Maison Berghman, we're only given water if we need it!
Tasting
I'm an absolute killer in salads! Thinly sliced with my pressed juice and a few mint leaves, it's so good.
